  I Saw Thee Weep

  I saw thee weep---the big bright tear

  Came o'er that eye of blue;

  And then methought it did appear

  A violet dropping dew:

  I saw thee smile---the sapphire's blaze

  Beside thee ceased to shine;

  It could not match the living rays

  That filled that glance of thine.

  As clouds from yonder sun receive

  A deep and mellow dye,

  Which scarce the shade of coming eve

  Can banish from the sky,

  Those smiles unto the moodiest mind

  Their own pure joy impart;

  Their sunshine leaves a glow behind

  That lightens o'er the heart.

  夕阳给云海染上了绚丽的色彩;

  the guitar

  the weeping of the guitar

  begins.

  the goblets of dawn

  are smashed.

  the weeping of the guitar

  begins.

  useless

  to silence it.

  impossible

  to silence it.

  it weeps monotonously

  as water weeps

  as the wind weeps

  over snowfields.

  impossible

  to silence it.

  it weeps for distant

  things.

  hot southern sands

  yearning for white camellias.

  weeps arrow without target

  evening without morning

  and the first dead bird

  on the branch.

  oh, guitar!

  heart mortally wounded

  by five swords.

  piano

  d.h.lawrence(1885—1930)

  softly, in the dusk, a woman is singing to me;

  taking me back down the vista of years, till i see

  a child sitting under the piano, in the boom of the tingling strings

  and pressing the small, poised feet of a mother who smiles as she sings.

  in spite of myself, the insidious mastery of song

  betrays me back, till the heart of me weeps to belong

  to the old sunday evenings at home, with winter outside

  and hymns in the cozy parlor, the tinkling piano our guide.

  so now it is vain for the singer to burst into clamor

  with the great black piano appassionato. the glamor

  of childish days is upon me, my manhood is cast

  down in the flood of remembrance, i weep like a child for the past.

  Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861)

  The soul’s Rialto hath its merchandise;

  I barter curl for curl upon that mart,

  And from my poet’s forehead to my heart

  Receive this lock which outweighs argosies, --

  As purply black, as erst to Pindar’s eyes

  The dim purpureal tresses gloomed athwart

  The nine white Muse-brows. For this counterpart,

  The bay-crown’s shade, Beloved, I surmise,

  Still lingers on thy curl, it is so black!

  Thus, with a fillet of smooth-kissing breath,

  I tie the shadows safe from gliding back,

  And lay the gift where nothing hindereth;

  Here on my heart, as on thy brow, to lack

  No natural heat till mine grows cold in death.

  将此珍贵礼,置于我心间;

  Devouring Time, blunt thou the lion's paws,

  And make the earth devour her own sweet brood;

  Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tiger's jaws,

  And burn the long-liv'd phoenix, in her blood;

  Make glad and sorry seasons as thou fleet'st,

  And do whate'er thou wilt, swift-footed Time,

  To the wide world and all her fading sweets;

  But I forbid thee one most heinous crime:

  O! carve not with thy hours my love's fair brow,

  Nor draw no lines there with thine antique pen;

  Him in thy course untainted do allow

  For beauty's pattern to succeeding men.

  Yet, do thy worst old Time: despite thy wrong,

  My love shall in my verse ever live young.

  土地长灵物,可令尽吞下;

  长命有凤凰,浴血来火化;

  对广大世界,及其易逝丽;

  亦勿用古笔,其上画线满;
